The Jamie Boeckel Memorial Foundation was established
in 2002 shortly after the sudden and tragic passing or
our friend, brother, and son, Jamie, in a yacht racing
accident while performing Bowman duties aboard Blue
Yankee on Long Island Sound. The mission of the fund
is to preserve Jamie’s memory through various charitable
endeavors that reflect the adventurous and generous spirit
of a young sailor who seized life with an unabashed spirit
and offered friendship to all those with whom he came
in contact.
Our efforts are twofold in nature. We are providing an
annual scholarship
award to benefit economically challenged students. The
Fund targets those students involved in competitive sailing
that have presented the ability to excel in a higher education
environment that have not had the support or resources
necessary to prepare them for the challenges of college.
Additionally we are supporting
ongoing efforts to promote safety at sea, targeting youth
sailing in order to introduce and instill the proper regard
for personal safety while on the water. We have developed
a program to award custom
life
vests to deserving young sailors based on conduct and
merit. We anticipate developing other such programs as the
Fund evolves. The fund is dependent on your generosity and
support in order to continue the efforts that we know would
make Jamie proud.
